Weird Week

Do you ever feel like you are in the Twilight Zone? This whole week has been one episode after another.
Just odd stuff.
My 5 year old daughter, who knows better, cut her nice shirt that she was wearing today. Why you ask?....hmmm good question? She doesn't even know why she did it. Next thing I know it will be her long blond hair. I will just die. I warn her all the time to NEVER cut her hair. She is now grounded from scissors until further notice!!!!!!
Other things have just felt kind of weird and out of place. Kind of like the world is pitted against me and I seem to be the brunt of everything that goes wrong......I know wa wa wa, cry me a river!
I received a horrible letter from a friend. (I don't think she reads this blog) It contained everything I have said or done wrong (as far as her interpretation goes) to her in the the past year. I still don't know how to handle it. Any suggestions?
I should pray about it.
ARGH!
Why?
Why does crappy little stuff happen to us like that, that just festers and drives us nuts? Was it really necessary? Does it really help to tell someone word for word how horrible they are? 3/4Th's of what she said was false. I am guilty of helping her out in a very bad situation that she was in, that she now pits against me.
Oh well, I will get over it.
I guess.
I am reading a book called What Happy People Know by Dan Baker. It is really good. I recommend picking it up if you are looking for a happy read. I found it at the Library and I have renewed it several times because I am still not finished with it. I only get to read a couple pages a day.
here are a few tidbits of it:
Appreciation is the purest, strongest form of love. Research shows that it is physiologically impossible to be in a state of appreciation and a state of fear at the same time. Thus, appreciation is the antidote to fear.
Choice is the father of freedom and the voice of the heart. Having no choices, or options, feels like being in jail. It leads to depression, anxiety and the condition called learned helplessness.
Anyway, it is very eye opening and I am learning a lot about choosing how I want to live my life and taking control over it. Both Mentally and Physically.
I love that we get a fresh start at a new day. I also love that we get a new week. And I know that it is never too late to start something good!
Hopefully (fingers crossed) next week wont be so Twilight Zone-ish.

Oh, be so careful about the scissors!!!!! Sarah cut her beautiful blond hair, one chunk right on the top of her head, one on the back of her head and one at the base of her neck on the left side. That was almost 2 years ago and it has finally grown about 4 inches, still about 6 inches shorter than the rest of her hair. So, good luck! With regard to your letter. Here are a few things to consider; have you been too busy to keep in touch with your friend on a regular basis? do you talk about other friends often and she feels as if her friendship doesn't matter to you? These may be a couple of reasons why she is upset. I only have this opinion because a very similar thing happened to me. I was the letter writer though. I have a friend that I have had since I was 11. She was always my only friend that was a girl, while growing up. She, on the other hand, had many friends. Well, fast forward about 20 years and we are still friends. She lives far away and naturally has her friends there and she blogged about them often. I would send her emails and would rarely get a response. I was very frustrated because for years it felt as though I was the only one that cared about our friendship. I sent her a letter and vented to her about how I thought that our friendship didn't matter to her and a lot of other things. It wasn't a very nice letter. I wasn't trying to be mean, but my feelings were hurt and I thought that my childhood friendship was over. We have worked things out since then. I hope that you are able to work things out as well. Good Luck!

I'm sorry, Rena. I have no advice about the letter. Something like that would devastate me. I guess I'd just try to be really honest with myself and own up to any truth that is in the letter, and try to forgive the rest of it. I doubt confronting the person about the falsities will do anything to improve the situation.
This happens with me and Ben a lot. He'll get mad at me about something and usually there is some truth to it, but usually there is a lot of unfairness in it, too. I used to try to defend myself and point out where he's being unfair but I realized that this doesn't change his opinion, it only confirms his bad opinion of me in that moment. It stinks to have to swallow that kind of thing, but if the only other options will make it worse? Then I just have to swallow it. Anyway, I can only imagine how it would eat at me to have a friend give me that sort of letter.
And Emma! What a naughty girl! She clearly has not mastered impulse control! :-) My kids haven't either! It's not such a twilight zone kind of thing when my kids pull stuff like that, though, because it's not exactly a rare occurrence.
I hope next week is a better week!

I would applogize. Even if you were blindsided by the anger and venom, appologize for her feeling that way because of something you may or may not have said or not said or done or not done. It takes understanding to have friendships and sometimes if you don't know where someone else is coming from you will never know where you really stand. I think you know where this person is coming from, but agreement may never come. I think the worst thing would be to deny or place blame on the other person.

I'm sorry about this. Good friends are rare, I would be sad if you had even one less. I hope you can approach the issue with love and caring of the other person rather than in a rage and in defense of yourself.

And...I pulled scissors out of my girl's hands the other day when she said that she wanted short hair like her friend (who coincidentally cut her hair a few weeks before).
